Mullet Toss & Spring Festival

The Homosassa Mullet Toss & Spring Festival welcome the pleasures of spring and summer in our town. Scallop season, summer fireworks, live music at local eateries and relaxing on the river are what we love. This festival offers the entire family a day of river shenanigans.

Enjoy delicious local food, great music and more fun than a person has a right to. The event highlight , of course, is the Mullet Toss. You’ve probably heard that you can smoke a mullet, but don’t be embarrassed if you never knew that you can toss one. This Homosassa tradition brings out the bravest of the brave ( or the silliest of the silly), using their athletic prowess to toss a frozen mullet the farthest. Prizes are given for the longest toss in various age groups. Kids and adults have a blast watching the fish fly in all directions.

For the less daring, there are many tamer activities including a casting contest, games, raffles and great eats. Held in May, it is a fun time for all.

Proceeds benefit the Homosassa Civic Club, the Homosassa Learning Center, community charities, scholarships, veterans groups and other charitable endeavors. Many local non-profit organizations provide information on their role in our community.
