Mullet Toss & Festival

ANNUAL HOMOSASSA MULLET TOSS & FESTIVALFEBRUARY 28, 2026

The 2026 Homosassa Mullet Toss and Spring Festival will be a blast and thousands of our closest friends are expected to have a flippin’ good time! We’ll celebrate the local pleasures of spring and summer in Homosassa- scallop season, fireworks, live music at local eateries and relaxing on the river. This festival offers the entire family a day of river shenanigans. Mark your calendar for Saturday, February 28, 2026 and get your throwing arm ready for this flippin’ great day.

Enjoy delicious local food, live music and more fun than a person has a right to. The event highlight, of course, is the Mullet Toss. You’ve probably heard that you can smoke a mullet, but don’t be embarrassed if you never knew that you can toss one. This Homosassa tradition brings out the bravest of the brave (or the silliest of the silly), using their athletic prowess to toss a frozen mullet the farthest. Prizes are given for the longest toss in various age groups. Kids and adults have a blast watching the fish fly in all directions.

The first Battle of the Badges between the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office and Citrus County Fire Rescue was phenomenal in 2025. Both teams threw valiantly. Ultimately, the Fire Rescue team won and they will keep the coveted Mullet Toss Memorial Plaque at their headquarters until the 2026 competition.

For the less daring, there are many tamer activities including a casting contest, games, raffles, a Kids Zone and great eats.

Proceeds benefit the Homosassa Civic Club, the Homosassa Learning Center, community charities, scholarships, youth organizations, veteran groups and other charitable endeavors. Many local non-profit organizations provide information on their role in our community.
