Homosassa Fishing Captains Teach Nature Coast Ecology Thru BOOKS, LINES and THINKERS

Local captains are again hosting Books, Lines and Thinkers for children of Homosassa Elementary School. Students are taken out on the Homosassa River to fish, see manatees and learn about ecology of the Nature Coast. The program is done in conjunction with the Homosassa Civic Club, the local Fishing Guides Association , thanks to Captain Mike Baize, and the Education Foundation. It is so important to teach children about the heritage of the river and the Nature Coast.

DECEMBER, 2024

Christmas is all about kids and the Homosassa Civic Club supported 2 programs that made the season merry and bright for many children. Santa by the Sea was a celebration at Heritage Park where everyone enjoyed games, gifts, cocoa and a visit with Santa. 150 childrn and their families enjoyed a wonderful morning at Heritage Park.


Next the annual Children’s Christmas Outreach program had gifts for 68 kids and 25 families, also bringing joy to club members who bought, wrapped and delivered the items.This is done in partnership with Homosassa Elementary School.

NOVEMBER

The Homosassa Civic Club welcomed county leaders and volunteers, thanking them for supporting hurricane relief aid services provided at the club. Homosassa. County administrator Steve Howard, Citrus County commissioners and Chamber of Commerce chairwoman Stacey Justice- Worthington were recognized.

Stacey Justice Worthington presented a check for $500 from the Citrus County Chamber of Commerce to the Homosassa Civic Club to help with continuing hurricane relief needs of the community.

OCTOBER

The Homosassa Civic Club focused on relief services for all Homosassa folks who have been devastated by Hurricane Helene from September 28-October 25. Go to our HURRICANE RELIEF CENTER page for details. All services were at the Homosassa Civic Club, 5300 S. Mason Creek Road and included provision of cleaning supplies, food, clothes, linens, water and more. Because the club was totally flooded, volunteers are set up in the Learning Center. Hours: 9a-3pm. Note: The Hurricane Relief Center permanently closed on Friday, October 25 at 1pm.

JULY

Kids are lighting up the Lighthouse Slide with their smiles!

Thanks to the Homosassa Civic Club members who volunteered to help at the fundraiser for injured Citrus County Sheriff’s Deputy Andy Lahera. The event at Crump’s Landing raised $74,000.

Homosassa Civic Club president Joe Fara welcomed Tony Clayton, president and owner of Head Flags, to the first raising of the American flag which Clayton donated at Homosassa’s Heritage Park. Also attending were County Commissioner Jeff Kinnard and Rodney MacRae.
